RESUMO

The demand for ultra-high-temperature piezoelectric sensors in industrial applications has witnessed a rapid upsurge. In this study, the piezoelectric properties of La2Ti2O7 (LTO) piezoelectric ceramics with a perovskite-like layered structure were enhanced by doping with Li/Ce ions. It was found that a remarkable 300% enhancement in the piezoelectric constant (d33) value was achieved in Li/Ce-doped LTO ceramics compared to their pristine counterparts, reaching 6.4 pC N-1 at room temperature with an ultra-high Curie temperature of 1408 °C. After annealing at 500 °C, the d33 value of the samples can be further improved to 7.4 pC N-1. Moreover, temperature-dependent resistivity measurements indicate that even at 1000 °C, the ceramics exhibit a high resistivity of 8.9 × 105 Ω cm. By combining X-ray diffraction, Raman spectra, transmission electron microscopy and piezoresponse force microscopy data, the enhanced piezoelectricity of the ceramics is attributed to local heterogeneity induced by Li/Ce doping. Our results unequivocally demonstrate the suitability of modified LTO ceramics for ultra-high-temperature piezoelectric applications.

RESUMO

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor with a strong tendency to metastasize, limiting the prognosis of affected patients. Genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic analyses have demonstrated the exquisite molecular complexity of this tumor, but have not sufficiently defined the underlying mechanisms or identified promising therapeutic targets. To systematically explore RNA-protein interactions relevant to OS, we define the RNA interactomes together with the full proteome and the transcriptome of cells from five malignant bone tumors (four osteosarcomata and one malignant giant cell tumor of the bone) and from normal mesenchymal stem cells and osteoblasts. These analyses uncover both systematic changes of the RNA-binding activities of defined RNA-binding proteins common to all osteosarcomata and individual alterations that are observed in only a subset of tumors. Functional analyses reveal a particular vulnerability of these tumors to translation inhibition and a positive feedback loop involving the RBP IGF2BP3 and the transcription factor Myc which affects cellular translation and OS cell viability. Our results thus provide insight into potentially clinically relevant RNA-binding protein-dependent mechanisms of osteosarcoma.

RESUMO

Carbonized bacterial cellulose embedded with highly dispersed nano zero-valent iron (nZVI), denoted as nZVI@CBC, was prepared through one-step in situ carbothermal treatment of bacterial cellulose adsorbing iron(III) nitrate. The structure characteristics of nZVI@CBC and its performance in removing hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) were investigated. Results showed the formation of nZVI@CBC with a surface area of 409.61 m2/g at 800 °C, with nZVI particles of mean size 28.2 nm well distributed within the fibrous network of CBC. The stability of nZVI was enhanced by its carbon coating, despite some inevitable oxidation of exposed nZVI. Batch experiments demonstrated that nZVI@CBC exhibited superior removal efficiency compared to bare nZVI and CBC. Under optimal conditions, nZVI@CBC exhibited a high Cr(VI) adsorption capacity of up to 372.42 mg/g. Therefore, nZVI@CBC shows promise as an effective adsorbent for remediating Cr(VI) pollution in water.

RESUMO

Dielectric capacitors are employed extensively due to their exceptional performance, including a rapid charge-discharge speed and superior power density. However, their practical implementation is hindered by constraints in energy-storage density (ESD), efficiency (ESE), and thermal stability. To achieve domain engineering and improved relaxor behavior in 0.67BiFeO3-0.33BaTiO3-based Pb-free ceramics, the concerns have been addressed here by employing a synergistic high-entropy strategy involving the design of the composition of Sr(Mg1/6Zn1/6Ta1/3Nb1/3)O3 with B-site multielement coexistence and high configuration entropy. Remarkably, in (0.67-x)BiFeO3-0.33BaTiO3-xSr(Mg1/6Zn1/6Ta1/3Nb1/3)O3 ceramics with x = 0.08, a good ESE (η) of 75% and a recoverable ESD (Wrec) of 2.4 J/cm3 at 190 kV/cm were attained together with an ultrahigh hardness of ∼7.2 GPa. The high-entropy strategy, which is tailored by an increase in configuration entropy, can be attributed to the superior mechanical and ES properties. It also explains the enhanced random field and relaxation behavior, the structural coexistence of ferroelectric rhombohedral (R3c) and nonpolar pseudocubic (Pm-3m) symmetries, the decreased domain size, and evenly distributed polar nanoregions (PNRs). Moreover, improved thermal stability and outstanding frequency stability are also obtained. By boosting the configuration entropy, BiFeO3-BaTiO3 materials dramatically improved their complete energy storage performance. This suggests that designing high-performance dielectrics with high entropy can be a convenient yet effective technique, leading to the development of advanced capacitors.

RESUMO

Halide perovskites have emerged as promising candidates in X-ray detection due to their strong X-ray absorption and excellent optoelectronic properties. The development of sensitive and stable flat-panel X-ray detectors with high resolution is crucial for practical applications. In this paper, we introduce a novel flat-panel X-ray detector that integrates quasi-two-dimensional (2D) Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskite with a pixeled thin film transistor (TFT) backplane. We incorporate 2,5-dibromopyrimidine (DBPM) as an additive to passivate the Lewis acid defects in the quasi-2D RP perovskite. This modification results in suppressed ion migration, improved optoelectronic performance, and enhanced operational stability of the device. Impressively, the activation energy of the RP perovskite increases from 0.96 to 1.35 eV with the DBPM additive. As a result, X-ray detectors exhibit a high sensitivity of ∼13,600 µC Gyair-1 cm-2, a low detection limit of 6.56 nGyair s-1, and excellent operational stability. Moreover, the flat-panel detectors demonstrate a high spatial resolution of 3.7 line pairs per millimeter and excellent X-ray imaging properties under a remarkably low X-ray dose of ∼50 µGyair, which is just half of the X-ray dose typically used in commercial equipment. This study opens new avenues for the development of flat-panel perovskite X-ray detectors with significant potential for various applications.

RESUMO

Background: The prevalence, epidemiological and clinical heterogeneities, and impact profiles of individuals with preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm), pre-COPD, young COPD, and mild COPD in general Chinese population were not known yet. Methods: Data were obtained from the China Pulmonary Health study (2012-2015), a nationally representative cross-sectional survey that recruited 50,991 adults aged 20 years or older. Definitions of the four early disease status were consistent with the latest publications and the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease criteria. Findings: The age-standardised prevalences of PRISm, pre-COPD, young COPD, and mild COPD were 5.5% (95% confidence interval, 4.3-6.9), 7.2% (5.9-8.8), 1.1% (0.7-1.8), and 3.1% (2.5-3.8), respectively. In summary, mild COPD was under more direct or established impact factor exposures, such as older age, male gender, lower education level, lower family income, biomass use, air pollution, and more accumulative cigarette exposures; young COPD and pre-COPD experienced more personal and parents' events in earlier lives, such as history of bronchitis or pneumonia in childhood, frequent chronic cough in childhood, parental history of respiratory diseases, passive smoke exposure in childhood, and mother exposed to passive smoke while pregnant; pre-COPD coexisted with heavier symptoms and comorbidities burdens; young COPD exhibited worse airway obstruction; and most of the four early disease status harbored small airway dysfunction. Overall, older age, male gender, lower education level, living in the urban area, occupational exposure, frequent chronic cough in childhood, more accumulated cigarette exposure, comorbid with cardiovascular disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease were all associated with increased presence of the four early COPD status; different impact profiles were additionally observed with distinct entities. Over the four categories, less than 10% had ever taken pulmonary function test; less than 1% reported a previously diagnosed COPD; and no more than 13% had received pharmaceutical treatment. Interpretation: Significant heterogeneities in prevalence, epidemiological and clinical features, and impact profiles were noted under varied defining criteria of early COPD; a unified and validated definition for an early disease stage is warranted. Closer attention, better management, and further research need to be administrated to these population. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) is a known risk factor for offspring developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore whether the increased COPD risk associated with MSDP could be attributed to tobacco dependence (TD). METHODS: This case-control study used data from the nationwide cross-sectional China Pulmonary Health study, with controls matched for age, sex, and smoking status. TD was defined as smoking within 30 minutes of waking, and the severity of TD was assessed using the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence. COPD was diagnosed when the ratio of forced expiratory volume in 1 second to forced vital capacity was <0.7 in a postbronchodilator pulmonary function test according to the 2017 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease criteria. Logistic regression was used to examine the correlation between MSDP and COPD, adjusting for age, sex, BMI, educational attainment, place of residence, ethnic background, occupation, childhood passive smoking, residential fine particulate matter, history of childhood pneumonia or bronchitis, average annual household income, and medical history (coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes). Mediation analysis examined TD as a potential mediator in the link between MSDP and COPD risk. The significance of the indirect effect was assessed through 1000 iterations of the "bootstrap" method. RESULTS: The study included 5943 participants (2991 with COPD and 2952 controls). Mothers of the COPD group had higher pregnancy smoking rates (COPD: n=305, 10.20%; controls: n=211, 7.10%; P<.001). TD was more prevalent in the COPD group (COPD: n=582, 40.40%; controls: n=478, 33.90%; P<.001). After adjusting for covariates, MSDP had a significant effect on COPD (ß=.097; P<.001). There was an association between MSDP and TD (ß=.074; P<.001) as well as between TD and COPD (ß=.048; P=.007). Mediation analysis of TD in the MSDP-COPD association showed significant direct and indirect effects (direct: ß=.094; P<.001 and indirect: ß=.004; P=.03). The indirect effect remains present in the smoking population (direct: ß=.120; P<.001 and indirect: ß=.002; P=.03). CONCLUSIONS: This study highlighted the potential association between MSDP and the risk of COPD in offspring, revealing the mediating role of TD in this association. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the impact of prenatal tobacco exposure on lung health, laying the groundwork for the development of relevant prevention and treatment strategies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a primary metric for diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer (PCa). Exposure to heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and zinc can impact PSA levels in PCa patients. However, it is unclear whether this effect also occurs in men without PCa, which may lead to the overdiagnosis of PCa. METHOD: Data on a total of 5089 American men who had never been diagnosed with PCa were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey performed from 2003-2010. The relationship between serum PSA levels (dependent variable) and concentrations of lead (µmol/L), cadmium (nmol/L), and mercury (µmol/L) were investigated with dietary zinc intake being used as a potential modifier or covariate in a weighted linear regression model and a generalized additive model. A series of bootstrapping analyses were performed to evaluate sensitivity and specificity using these models. RESULTS: Regression analyses suggested that, in general, lead, cadmium, or mercury did not show an association with PSA levels, which was consistent with the results of the bootstrapping analyses. However, in a subgroup of participants with a high level of dietary zinc intake (≥14.12 mg/day), a significant positive association between cadmium and serum PSA was identified (1.06, 95% CI, P = 0.0268, P for interaction=0.0249). CONCLUSIONS: With high-level zinc intake, serum PSA levels may rise in PCa-free men as the exposure to cadmium increases, leading to a potential risk of an overdiagnosis of PCa and unnecessary treatment. Therefore, environmental variables should be factored in the current diagnostic model for PCa that is solely based on PSA measurements. Different criteria for PSA screening are necessary based on geographical variables. Further investigations are needed to uncover the biological and biochemical relationship between zinc, cadmium, and serum PSA levels to more precisely diagnose PCa.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the pooled prevalence, as well as the spatial and temporal distribution, of urolithiasis among subjects in China. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search of both Chinese and English databases to retrieve literature pertaining to the prevalence of urolithiasis in the indigenous Chinese population. A random-effects meta-analysis model was employed to calculate the pooled prevalence of urolithiasis. Subgroup analyses were conducted based on factors such as time, region, gender, and sample size. Prevalence and spatial distribution maps were created based on provinces and latitude/longitude coordinates. RESULTS: A total of 46 studies conducted in 22 provinces across China were included in this meta-analysis and the pooled prevalence of urolithiasis, kidney stones, ureteric calculi, urethral and bladder stones were 8.1% (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.6-11.1%), 7.8% (95% CI 5.8-10.0%), 3.2% (95% CI 0.6-5.7%), 0.5% (95% CI 0.1-0.9%). Most of the urolithiasis prevalence screening in China was concentrated between 100° E and 120° E, with higher rates observed in low latitude areas. Subgroup analysis of kidney stones revealed that Guangdong (12.7%) and Guangxi (10.3%) had the highest prevalence, with the eastern developed area exhibiting higher rates compared to the west. The prevalence in males was higher than in females (odds ratio 1.67, 95% CI 1.46-1.92), although the gender gap has significantly reduced since 2006. Moreover, a greater sample size is associated with a decreased prevalence of urolithiasis. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of urolithiasis is increasing in China, and there are noteworthy regional or provincial disparities in occurrence. It is worth noting that the current number of screening studies in some areas is insufficient. Additional investigations with appropriate sample sizes should be supplemented in time.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ischemic stroke is a major cause of disability and death worldwide. A narrow therapeutic window profoundly constrained the utilization of alteplase. OBJECTIVES: To investigate therapeutic effects and safety of intravenous recombinant human prourokinase (rhPro-UK) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the 4.5-6 h therapeutic time windows. METHODS: We conducted a phase IIa, randomized, and open-label multicenter clinical trial. Between 4.5 and 6 h after the onset of AIS, patients were randomly administrated to receive intravenous rhPro-UK at a 50 mg or 35 mg dose. The primary endpoint was excellent functional outcome defined as modified Rankin scale (mRS) score of 1 or less at 90 days. The secondary outcome was the treatment response, which was based on an at least 4-point improvement from baseline National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score at 24 h after drug administration. Safety endpoints included death, symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH), and other serious adverse events. RESULTS: We enrolled 80 patients in the 4.5-6 h therapeutic time windows at 17 medical centers in China from December 2016 to November 2017. A total of 39 patients were treated with 50 mg rhPro-UK, and 39 were treated with 35 mg rhPro-UK. Compared with the baseline, the NIHSS score at 24 h and days 7, 14, 30, and 90 was decreased significantly among patients treated with either rhPro-UK 50 mg or 35 mg. The mean reduction in the NIHSS from baseline to 90 days after the onset was 3.56 and 5.79 in the rhPro-UK 50 mg group and the rhPro-UK 35 mg group, respectively. The rates of functional independence at 90 days of rhPro-UK 50 mg and 35 mg were 61.54% and 69.23%, respectively (P = 0.475), and the proportion of patients with functional response to treatment at 24 h were 28.21% and 33.33% (P = 0.624). No sICH occurred in the two groups, and death occurred in only one patient in the rhPro-UK 50 mg group. There was no significant difference in mortality at 90 days and the rate of other serious adverse events between two groups. CONCLUSION: In the 4.5-6 h time window, more than 60% of patients at either dose of rhPro-UK (50 mg or 35 mg) achieved functional independence at 90 days without increased mortality and sICH risk. Thus, intravenous rhPro-UK was effective and safe for patients with AIS within 4.5-6 h after stroke onset. While no significant differences were identified between different dosages of rhPro-UK regarding clinical outcomes, it is a logical step to further test the safety and efficacy of the low dose of rhPro-UK in a well-powered phase III study. RESUMO

Cancer nanomedicine has been an emerging field for drug development against malignant tumors during the past three decades. A bibliometric analysis was performed to characterize the current international trends and present visual representations of the evolution and emerging trends in the research and development of nanocarriers for cancer treatment. This study employed bibliometric analysis and visualization techniques to analyze the literature on antitumor nanocarriers published between 2013 and 2023. A total of 98,980 articles on antitumor nanocarriers were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database and analyzed using the Citespace software for specific characteristics such as publication year, countries/regions, organizations, keywords, and references. Network visualization was constructed by VOSviewer and Citespace. From 2013 to 2023, the annual global publications increased 7.39 times, from 1851 to 13,683. People's Republic of China (2588 publications) was the most productive country. Chinese Academy of Sciences (298 publications) was the most productive organization. The top 5 high-frequency keywords were "nanoparticles," "drug delivery," "nanomedicine," "cancer," and "nanocarriers." The keywords with the strongest citation bursts recently were "cancer immunotherapy," "microenvironment," "antitumor immunity," etc., which indicated the emerging frontiers of antitumor nanomedicine. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of the keywords formed 6 clusters, and most of the top 10 publications by citation counts focused on cluster #1 (nanocarriers) and cluster #2 (cancer immunotherapy). We further provided insightful discussions into the identified subtopics to help researchers gain more details of current trends and hotspots in this field. The present study processes a macro-level literature analysis of antitumor nanocarriers and provides new perspectives and research directions for future development in cancer nanomedicine.

RESUMO

Zea mays L. is an annual grass of the Gramineae family and is known as one of the cereal crops. Its by-products exhibited significant medicinal properties. In some regions of China, water extracts of Z. mays roots (RM) are utilized to treat kidney stones, but no research has been reported. In our present study, a bioassay-guided isolation method was used to yield five new lignans (1-5) as well as 15 known components, among which 8-15 and 17-20 were first identified from the genus. The fractions and all components were evaluated for their abilities to inhibit sodium oxalate-induced injury to human proximal tubular HK-2 cells. Fraction 50W and compounds 3, 4, and 11 exhibited the most potent activities. Further investigation indicated that these potential agents inhibited the LDH release, decreased the MDA and H2O2 concentrations, and increased the level of SOD2 in HK-2 cells. These results indicated that RM is a promising and valuable crop waste for further development and utilization in nephrolithiasis pharmaceutical research.

RESUMO

The wide application of KNN-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics is constrained by the contradictory relationship between its mechanical quality factor and piezoelectric constant. From an application point of view, searching for chemical composition with enhanced piezoelectric constant (d33) and mechanical quality factor (Qm) is one of the key points of KNN-based ceramics. In this work, KNN-based ceramics with enhanced d33 and high Qm values were obtained by the solid solution method via a donor-acceptor codoping strategy. The donor dopant Ho3+ enhanced d33 values by refining the domain size, while the acceptor dopant (Cu1/3Nb2/3)4+ improved Qm by the formation of defect dipoles. The composition (KNN-5Ho-4CN) exhibits optimal integrated performances, of which d33, Qm, and TC values are 120 pC/N, 850, and 392 °C, respectively. Moreover, the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF = -429 ppm/K) indicates that KNN-5Ho-4CN ceramic has good temperature stability. This work provides a new insight for developing KNN-based ceramics with enhanced d33 and high Qm.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether prolactin (PRL) regulates the proliferation of pigeon crop epithelium through the Hippo signaling pathway during the breeding cycle. Twenty-four pairs of adult pigeons were allotted to four groups by different breeding stages, and their crops and serum were sampled. Eighteen pairs of young pigeons were selected and divided into three groups for the injection experiments. The results showed that the serum PRL content and crop epithelial thickness of pigeons increased significantly at day 17 of incubation (I17) and day 1 of chick-rearing (R1). In males, the mRNA levels of yes-associated transcriptional regulator (YAP) and snail family transcriptional repressor 2 (SNAI2) were peaked at I17, and the gene levels of large tumor suppressor kinase 1 (LATS1), serine/threonine kinase 3 (STK3), TEA domain transcription factor 3 (TEAD3), connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), MYC proto-oncogene (c-Myc) and SRY-box transcription factor 2 (SOX2) reached the maximum value at R1. In females, the gene expression of YAP, STK3, TEAD3, and SOX2 reached the greatest level at I17, the expression profile of SAV1, CTGF, and c-Myc were maximized at R1. In males, the protein levels of LATS1 and YAP were maximized at R1 and the CTGF expression was upregulated at I17. In females, LATS1, YAP, and CTGF reached a maximum value at I17, and the expression level of phosphorylated YAP was minimized at I17 in males and females. Subcutaneous injection of prolactin (injected for 6 d, 10 µg per kg body weight every day) on the left crop of pigeons can promote the proliferation of crop epithelium by increasing the CTGF level and reducing the phosphorylation level of YAP. YAP-TEAD inhibitor verteporfin (injection for 6 d, 2.5 mg per kg body weight every day) can inhibit the proliferation of crop epithelium induced by prolactin by inhibiting YAP and CTGF expression. In conclusion, PRL can participate in crop cell proliferation of pigeons by promoting the expression of YAP and CTGF in Hippo pathway.

RESUMO

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate if the combination of multishot diffusion imaging-based multiplexed sensitivity encoding intravoxel incoherent motion (MUSE-IVIM) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is feasible for staging Crohn's disease (CD) activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 65 CD patients were enrolled and analyzed in this retrospective study. The simplified endoscopic score for Crohn's disease (SES-CD) and magnetic resonance index of activity (MaRIA) were used as the reference. The MUSE-IVIM and DCE-MRI data were acquired at 3.0-T MRI scanner and processed by two radiologists. Three MUSE-IVIM parameters: fast apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCfast), slow apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCslow), and the fractional perfusion (Fraction of ADCfast), as well as four DCE-MRI parameters: volume transfer constant (Ktrans), rate constant (Kep), extravascular extracellular volume fraction (Ve), and plasma volume fraction (Vp) were generated. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), non-parametric test (Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U), logistic regression, receiver operating characteristic analysis, Delong test, and Spearman's correlation test were performed. RESULTS: According to SES-CD, 116 ileocolonic segments with CD lesions were identified as: inactive, mild, and moderate to severe. With multivariable logistic regression analysis, ADCfast (p < 0.001), Fraction of ADCfast (p = 0.005), Ktrans (p < 0.001) and Kep (p = 0.003) were identified as significant factors for differentiating among the three groups. Binary logistic analyses identified ADCfast (p = 0.001), Ktrans (p = 0.014), and Kep (p = 0.029) as independent predictors for the active status. The combination of ADCfast, Ktrans, and Kep performed better than MaRIA score (p = 0.028), for differentiating inactive and active status. MaRIA score was positively correlated with ADCfast (p < 0.001), Ktrans (p < 0.001), Kep (p < 0.001), and Ve (p = 0.001), however, negatively correlated with Fraction of ADCfast (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The combination of MUSE-IVIM and DCE-MRI has been demonstrated to accurately stage inflammatory activity in CD.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to build a deep learning system using enhanced computed tomography (CT) portal-phase images for predicting colorectal cancer patients' preoperative staging and RAS gene mutation status. METHODS: The contrast-enhanced CT image dataset comprises the CT portal-phase images from a retrospective cohort of 231 colorectal cancer patients. The deep learning system was developed via migration learning for colorectal cancer detection, staging, and RAS gene mutation status prediction. This study used pre-trained Yolov7, vision transformer (VIT), swin transformer (SWT), EfficientNetV2, and ConvNeXt. 4620, and contrast-enhanced CT images and annotated tumor bounding boxes were included in the tumor identification and staging dataset. A total of 19,700 contrast-enhanced CT images comprise the RAS gene mutation status prediction dataset. RESULTS: In the validation cohort, the Yolov7-based detection model detected and staged tumors with a mean accuracy precision (IoU = 0.5) (mAP_0.5) of 0.98. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) in the test set and validation set for the VIT-based prediction model in predicting the mutation status of the RAS genes was 0.9591 and 0.9554, respectively. The detection network and prediction network of the deep learning system demonstrated great performance in explaining contrast-enhanced CT images. CONCLUSION: In this study, a deep learning system was created based on the foundation of contrast-enhanced CT portal-phase imaging to preoperatively predict the stage and RAS mutation status of colorectal cancer patients. This system will help clinicians choose the best treatment option to increase colorectal cancer patients' chances of survival and quality of life.

RESUMO

Pigeon is an important economic poultry species in many countries. As an altricial bird, its growth and development are largely reliant on pigeon milk produced by the crop tissue in the first week. During the breeding cycle, pigeons undergo a series of behavioral changes. Pigeon milk is generally characterized by having high concentrations of proteins and lipids, and a complicated regulatory network is involved in the milk formation. Hormones, especially prolactin, could promote the proliferation of crop epidermal cells and nutrient accumulation. The expression of target genes associated with these important biological processes in the crop epidermis is affected by non-coding RNAs. Meanwhile, signaling pathways, such as target of rapamycin (TOR), Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription proteins (JAK/STAT), protein kinase B (Akt), etc., influence the production of crop milk by either enhancing protein synthesis in crop cells or inducing apoptosis of crop epidermal cells. In order to adapt to the different breeding periods, pigeons are physiologically changed in their intestinal morphology and function and liver metabolism. This paper reviews the behaviors and physiological adaptations of pigeon during the breeding cycle, the composition of pigeon crop milk, and the mechanism of its formation, which is important for a better understanding of the physiology of altricial birds and the development of artificial crop milk.

RESUMO

With the increasing demand for smaller, lighter, and more affordable electromagnetic devices, there is a growing trend toward developing high-power-density transformers and electrical machines. While increasing the operating frequency is a straightforward approach to achieving high power density, it can lead to significant power loss within a limited volume, resulting in excessive temperature rise and device degradation. Therefore, it is crucial to design high-power-density electromagnetic devices that exhibit low power loss and efficient thermal dissipation to address these challenges. Advanced techniques, such as the utilization of novel and advanced electromagnetic materials, hold great promise for overcoming these issues. Specifically, nanocrystalline and amorphous magnetic materials have emerged as highly effective solutions for reducing power loss and increasing efficiency in electromagnetic devices. This paper aims to provide an overview of the application of nanocrystalline and amorphous magnetic materials in transformers and electrical machines, along with key technologies and the major challenges involved.

RESUMO

The mechanism of sex determination in chickens, especially the molecular mechanism of female ovarian development, has not yet been fully elucidated. Previous studies have shown that RSPO1, which is associated with ovarian development in mammals, might have a conserved role in chickens. In this study, we systematically investigated the spatiotemporal expression pattern of RSPO1 in various tissues, especially gonads, of male and female chicken embryos using qPCR and Western blotting, and we explored its correlation with the expression of key genes in the estrogen pathway using drug treatment or gene overexpression in vivo and in vitro. Our results reveal that RSPO1 was widely expressed in all examined tissues of chicken embryos, showing a female bias in gonadal tissues at both the mRNA and protein levels. Surprisingly, RSPO1 was not differentially expressed between male and female gonadal cells with fadrozole-induced estrogen pathway blockades, and furthermore, estradiol-induced estrogen stimulation altered the expression of RSPO1. In addition, overexpression of RSPO1 in gonadal cells induced the mRNA expression of its downstream target genes, Wnt family member 4 (WNT4) and Catenin beta 1 (CTNNB1), and that of estrogen receptor α (ERα), an estrogen pathway gene. In summary, this study provided new evidence for elucidating the role of RSPO1 in ovarian development in poultry.
